Stellar Roofing Company started where every good roofer should start. On a roof.

Our founder, Paul Aikens, began his career in roofing in 2006, working directly under an experienced roofing craftsman and alongside artisan builders, learning the roofing and siding trades from the inside out. He learned the trade the way it is meant to be learned: hands-on, on real roofs, in real Michigan weather. Six years later, in 2012, Paul went out on his own and founded the company we operate today. Since 2006 he has been on the roof every step of the way, and across that career he has personally completed more than 6,000 projects across Michigan, leading and training hundreds of tradesmen along the way — every one of them documented, with over 100,000 photos behind the work.

We started with what was broken.

Leaks. Cracks. Aging systems. Storm damage that didn't hold back. Neither did we. For more than a decade we were not just the company installing new roofs. We were the company called in to diagnose the problems other contractors could not solve. To find the root cause, engineer the right solution, and see it through.

For years we worked as the crew behind the scenes. Builders, general contractors, and other roofing companies hired us to do the actual work on their projects. Over time those same companies handed more of the job over to us — diagnosing the problems they couldn't solve, speaking directly with their homeowners, running entire projects start to finish.

In 2016 we began working directly with homeowners and building owners under our own name, while continuing to support the builders who had become long-term partners. We were one of the only roofing companies in West Michigan made up entirely of in-house tradesmen, with up to twenty-five W2 employees and zero subcontractors. The crew that showed up at your home was our crew.

Then 2020 happened.

When the industry scrambled, Paul rebuilt the company from the ground up — personally, on the roof, one job at a time. While the rest of the industry chased fifteen-to-thirty-thousand-dollar replacements, he focused on what the industry had largely walked away from: roof repair. Real diagnosis. Real options. He showed up at homes where the owner had been quoted a full replacement and offered them another path — repair the area that was actually damaged, backed by a warranty matched to the roof's remaining life.

He did not do this because it was the easy path. He did it because it was the right one. Roofs that could be saved should be saved. Owners who could be spared an unexpected major expense should be.

Within a couple of years, that decision built something the industry had not seen coming. The owners Paul had repaired roofs for — the ones treated honestly when they could have been upsold — became the foundation of everything that came next. When the time came to replace their roofs, they did not call anyone else. They brought their neighbours, their colleagues, and their property managers with them.

We didn't learn roofing from a manual. We learned it by tearing roofs apart, finding what went wrong, and rebuilding them the right way. Over and over. We learned how water actually moves through a structure, how materials behave in real Michigan conditions rather than how they are marketed to perform, and where systems break down under pressure.

That is exactly why we can do what we do. Decades of repairing what was broken is what makes us better at building what lasts. We know where roofs fail because our founder has spent more than twenty years in the trade fixing the failures.

It is why local contractors, builders, architects, and engineers turn to us when something doesn't make sense — not to ask how a roof should perform in theory, but how it actually performs in the real world, under real stress, over long exposure.

We did not start this company to compete with the rest of the industry. We started it to deliver something the industry was missing: a roofing company built by tradesmen, run by tradesmen, where the people who diagnose and engineer your roof are the same people who install it.
